In English we only use Mr. with last names. (family names.)
So to use the example of Ichiro Suzuki;
We can say
○ Ichiro (Casual)
○ Mr. Suzuki (Formal)
○ Mr. Ichiro Suzuki (More Formal)
My name is Martin Edmondson, and to say;
× Mr. Martin
Is wrong because Martin is my first name. Martin is sometimes a family name too (like the singers; Dean Martin and Ricky Martin). So be careful.
If you meet me, please call me.
○ Martin
Mr. Edmondson can sound a little cold, especially if we know each other. Usually my bank calls me Mr. Edmondson, but all my friends call me Martin.
If you (as a Japanese) want to show respect, then like in Japanese;
○ Martin-san
○ Edmondson-san
Is also ok, but never say;
× Mr. Martin-san
× Mr. Edmondson-san
This just sounds strange. It would be like 鈴木先生.
In English it is sometimes ok to say;
○ I am Mr. Carson from ABC Company. 私はABC社のカーソンです。
Although we would never say 私はABC社のカーソンです in Japanese. In English it very formal, but ok.
